Former President Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and singer Beyoncé following a recent campaign rally in Houston, Texas, where the superstar appeared but did not perform as some media outlets had suggested.
The controversy emerged after the October 26, 2024 rally, where Beyoncé spoke to approximately 30,000 people. The Grammy-winning artist made it clear she was there in a different capacity, stating, “I’m here as a mother,” Beyoncé said. “A mother who cares deeply about the world my children, and all of our children, live in. A world where we have the freedom to control our bodies.”
Wearing an orange and yellow safety vest, the former President took the stage in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 30, at his own rally and told the crowd that four nights earlier, “They got Beyoncé… uh Beyoncé.” He paused as the audience seemed to boo the singer, who has sold over 350 million records as both a solo artist and with Destiny’s Child. He repeated, sighing, that “they got Beyoncé.” He added that they don’t need Beyoncé or anyone else; all they have is him, and he doesn’t have a guitar.
The former president alleged that Beyoncé and Harris were “soundly booed” at the Houston event, though this claim remains unverified.
Several media outlets had promoted Beyoncé’s appearance with suggestions that she would perform, leading to criticism from conservatives who accused the Harris campaign of using the suggestion of a performance to attract a larger crowd. The Trump campaign labeled the event a “total and complete disaster.”
In response to Trump’s criticism, the Harris-Walz campaign defended the rally’s success and called Trump’s comments “unhinged.” The campaign emphasized that Harris remains focused on addressing issues affecting the American people.
The Harris Houston rally, also featuring Willie Nelson, centered on voter mobilization and reproductive rights issues. Harris used the platform to criticize Trump’s policies and discuss the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
