Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has publicly renounced political involvement following his active support of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Describing the political arena as “gross” and “disgusting,” White expressed a firm desire to distance himself from future political activities.
White’s longstanding friendship with Trump dates back to the early 2000s when Trump provided venues for UFC events during its formative years.
Trump enlisted the UFC President and CEO to serve as a prominent speaker at the last three Republican National Conventions. He was invited to the onstage celebration following this month’s election victory. At that event, White took to the podium to deliver a speech with glowing praise for Trump. His remarks included admiration for Trump’s leadership and character, culminating in what many viewed as a personal victory speech of his own.
White called Trump one of the toughest and most fearless men he has ever known. He highlighted Trump’s resilience by recounting a specific incident where someone attempted to fire seven shots at him using a high-powered rifle equipped with a scope. White described Trump as “tougher and more badass than anybody,” expressing awe at Trump’s composure and strength during the ordeal.
Despite his significant contributions, White’s experience in the political sphere has left him disillusioned.
Following UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden on November 16, 2024, he told The New Yorker, “I’m never (expletive) doing this again. I want nothing to do with this (expletive). It’s gross. It’s disgusting. I want nothing to do with politics.”
White’s efforts included facilitating Trump’s appearances on popular podcasts hosted by figures such as Joe Rogan, Theo Von, and the Nelk Boys. These platforms provided Trump with direct access to audiences beyond traditional media channels.
White’s political engagement culminated at UFC 309, where Trump attended alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and podcaster Joe Rogan. This event highlighted the intersection of politics, technology, and sports media in contemporary campaign strategies.
While White’s departure from the political scene marks a significant shift, it showcases the complexities and personal tolls of political involvement, even for individuals with substantial influence and longstanding relationships.
