A night out in Tbilisi, Georgia took a devastating turn when 24-year-old Arina Glazunova from Moscow, Russia fell to her death. On September 27, 2024 Glazunova was celebrating with a friend, singing and dancing while walking near the entrance of a subway station. As she sang along to the Russian boyband Hunger Boys’ hit “For The Last Time,” her focus was on the camera, and she didn’t see the drop ahead.
Media footage shows Glazunova looking toward her friend’s phone without realizing she was walking too close to a ledge. In the video, her friend’s expression changes as she sees Glazunova disappear over the wall and fall into an underground passage.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Glazunova suffered serious head injuries and a broken neck. She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The accident has raised concerns about safety at the station, as the small wall at the edge of the entrance offers little protection. Flowers have since been laid at the site in memory of Glazunova, and a makeshift memorial has formed at the foot of the stairs.
Images of the location reveal a low wall overlooking a drop to a concrete staircase. The incident sparked a significant response on social media, with many expressing concerns about the lack of safety measures, including one user who questioned the absence of security fences and the apparent risk posed by the wall to pedestrians.
This accident has sparked a debate about public safety measures in Tbilisi, especially in high-traffic areas like underground station entrances. Although specific details about the station’s infrastructure remain limited, calls for better safety precautions are growing louder, with locals pushing for more substantial barriers or warning signs in areas where pedestrians could be at risk.
Another similar incident involved a Turkish TikToker, Kubra Aykut, who died just days before Glazunova’s fall. Aykut fell from the fifth floor of a luxury apartment building while filming content for social media.
Glazunova’s death is a tragic reminder of how quickly accidents can happen, especially when people are focused on filming or taking photos. Her final moments, captured on video, have left an indelible mark on those who knew her and on the broader community of Tbilisi.
