Former President Donald Trump sharply criticized the hosts of ABC’s “The View” after Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on the talk show, referring to them as “degenerates” and “dumb women” in posts on social media platforms Truth Social and X on Tuesday, October 8.
Trump’s remarks were in response to Kamala Harris’ recent interview, during which she was asked if she would have done anything differently from President Joe Biden over the past four years. Harris replied, “There is not a thing that comes to mind. And I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact.” She highlighted the administration’s efforts to cap the cost of insulin at $35 and reduce prescription medication costs for seniors.
Later in the interview, Harris added that she would do at least one thing differently: “I’m going to have a Republican in my Cabinet.”
A brief segment of her response appeared to provoke Trump’s ire. He posted on X, “Lyin’ Kamala, who is being exposed as a ‘dummy’ every time she does a show, just stated to the degenerates on The View that she would have done nothing different than Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.”
Trump continued, “The Lamestream Media doesn’t want to pick up the story, the dumb women on the show wish they never asked her the question that led to that Election Defying answer, but the Internet is going WILD,” before listing various grievances he often discusses at rallies.
In a subsequent post on Truth Social, Trump accused Harris of falsehoods regarding insulin pricing. “I was the one who got the $35 Insulin, not Lyin’ Kamala,” he wrote.
Harris’ appearance on “The View” was part of a broader media campaign that has included interviews on “60 Minutes,” podcasts like “Call Her Daddy,” and radio shows such as “The Howard Stern Show.” During the interview, Harris criticized Trump and other Republicans for spreading debunked claims about the federal response to Hurricane Helene.
Co-host Ana Navarro, a former Republican strategist, highlighted Trump’s statements regarding FEMA aid. “Kamala spent all of her FEMA money—billions of dollars—on housing for illegal migrants,” Trump had told a crowd in Saginaw, Michigan, the previous week, a claim echoed by some of his allies in Congress.
In response, Harris called the remarks “profound” and “the height of irresponsibility and frankly callousness.” She accused the former president of “playing political games for the sake of himself” during a tragedy.
Trump has had a contentious relationship with “The View” and its hosts over the years. He has frequently exchanged insults with individual hosts, notably former host Rosie O’Donnell, whom he belittled during a 2016 presidential debate with Hillary Clinton. Longtime co-host Joy Behar has been openly critical of Trump, referring to him as a “true sociopath” in July of this year.
Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg have also been targets of Trump’s criticism. In recent remarks, Trump called Hostin, who is Black and Latina, “dumber than Kamala.” He called Goldberg “demented,” and said she has a “foul mouth.”
“She was so filthy dirty, disgusting,” he said. “She was so dirty. Every word was filthy, dirty. What a loser she is.”
The exchange comes amid a broader landscape of political attacks and misinformation. Multiple sources have fact-checked and refuted claims made by Trump regarding the federal response to Hurricane Helene, including allegations that FEMA funds were misused or that aid was withheld from certain areas.
The Biden-Harris administration has addressed these falsehoods, emphasizing their commitment to disaster relief and criticizing the spread of misinformation that hinders relief efforts.
In response to criticism about his frequent insults toward women, Trump said at his first of two rallies of the day in the pivotal battleground state of Pennsylvania: “I don’t want to be nice. You know, somebody said, ‘You should be nicer. Women won’t like it.’ I said, ‘I don’t care.’”
As the political climate intensifies ahead of the upcoming election, both Trump and Harris continue to engage with media outlets to convey their messages to the public. Harris’ recent media appearances aim to connect with diverse audiences, while Trump’s statements reflect his ongoing strategy of direct communication through social media platforms.
