Mass Shooting: 2 Dead, 3 Injured

Police are searching for a suspect in connection with a shooting in southwest Redding, California that left two men dead and three others injured early Friday morning, October 4.

The Redding Police Department received multiple calls reporting shots fired near Westside Road and Meadowbrook Drive at approximately 2:41 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men deceased. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of their families.

Three additional adult victims – two females and one male – arrived at a local hospital seeking treatment for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the shooting. Two of these victims have since been released from the hospital, while one female victim remains hospitalized, according to police on Saturday.

Detectives have identified Andrew Greer-Herrera, 19, of Lookout, California, as the primary suspect in the shooting. An arrest warrant for homicide has been issued for Greer-Herrera, whose current whereabouts are unknown.

Redding police announced that another teen, Trevon Evanoff, 18, was apprehended by the Sparks, Nevada Police Department on Sunday and is now being held without bail for a murder charge at the Washoe County Jail as he awaits his transfer back to Shasta County.

The Redding Police Department is requesting public assistance in locating Greer-Herrera. However, due to concerns that he may be armed and dangerous, authorities are urging members of the public not to approach or attempt to contact him if spotted. Instead, citizens are advised to immediately call SHASCOM Dispatch at 9-1-1 to report any sightings.

This incident marks a violent start to the month in Redding, a city of approximately 93,000 residents located about 160 miles north of Sacramento. Local law enforcement agencies are coordinating efforts to apprehend the suspects and ensure public safety.

The shooting occurred in a residential area near the intersection of Westside Road and Meadowbrook Drive, prompting a significant police response in the early morning hours. Residents in the vicinity reported being awakened by the sound of gunfire and the subsequent arrival of emergency vehicles.

Just hours after the shooting, friends of the two male victims ensured they would not be forgotten. Around 100 people came together at the intersection of Westside Road and Meadowbrook Drive for a spontaneous memorial on Friday night.

As the sun dipped below the mountains to the west, friends lit candles along the sidewalk and arranged them to form initials. Earlier, those mourning had released balloons and then took to their motorcycles to perform burnout maneuvers as a tribute.

Robert Gutierres, a friend of the two victims, who had ridden motorcycles with them, stated that everyone gathered to share memories and pay tribute to the men.

“Today, we’re celebrating his life. He loved motorcycles. It’s what we did,” Gutierres said of one of the men.

Gutierres called one of the victims “a great kid” who was working at a Sonic in Anderson and wanted to “become somebody in society.”

As the investigation continues, detectives are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and determine a possible motive. Authorities have not yet released information about any potential connections between the suspects and the victims or whether the incident may have been targeted or random.
