Carol Hunt, 61, and her daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were tragically found deceased in their residence in Bushey, Hertfordshire, England on July 9, 2024.
The accused, Kyle Clifford, 26, a former serviceman of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards of the British Army, has been indicted for the homicides. The charges also include false imprisonment and having two unlawful weapons: a butcher’s knife with a 10-inch blade and a crossbow.
Authorities discovered Clifford injured in a cemetery in Enfield on July 10, 2024, the day after the alleged assault. The Hertfordshire police reported that they couldn’t initially question him due to his physical condition.
On his arrest, Clifford was officially indicted and placed into detention. He appeared remotely at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 17, 2024, where the charges were enumerated. Clifford faces three counts of murder for the deaths of Carol, Hannah, and Louise Hunt, along with additional counts for weapon possession and the unlawful confinement of Louise Hunt, who was found bound to a chair at the crime scene.
District Judge Paul Goldspring informed Clifford during the court hearing that the murder and false imprisonment charges would only be adjudicated at the Crown Court. Clifford was remanded in custody to appear at the Central Criminal Court at the Royal Courts of Justice. No bail was granted due to the seriousness of the charges.
Court records reveal that Clifford, who had a previous relationship with Louise Hunt, assaulted the family using a crossbow and a knife. On the night of the attack, Hannah Hunt managed to call the police. “She said that her mother and sister had been shot and that she feared she was going to die,” the court was informed. The call was abruptly ended. Upon arriving, police found the front door open and Louise restrained. Both Louise and Hannah had been shot with a crossbow, while their mother, Carol, was fatally stabbed with a butcher’s knife.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardner expressed empathy for the Hunt family, stating: “We have been working hard to gather as much evidence as possible and establish the full circumstances of what happened that day. We can now move forward with the judicial process and seek justice for their family.”
John Hunt, husband to Carol and father to Hannah and Louise, who is a well-known BBC racing commentator, spoke about the indescribable pain he and his surviving daughter Amy are experiencing.
