A Wells Fargo employee was found dead at her office desk in Tempe, Arizona, four days after last clocking in, according to local authorities. Denise Prudhomme, 60, was discovered by on-site security personnel on August 20, 2024.
Prudhomme had logged in for work at 7 a.m. on August 16 but was not seen again until her body was found at her third-floor cubicle in an underpopulated area of the workplace. The Tempe Police Department reported no immediate signs of foul play, though the investigation is ongoing. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined the cause and manner of her death.
Wells Fargo expressed profound sorrow over Prudhomme’s passing, emphasizing their deep sadness at the loss of their colleague. The company stated that its thoughts are with Prudhomme’s family and loved ones, and it is in contact with them to provide necessary support during this difficult period. It also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its employees, noting that counselors are available to assist any staff members affected by the event.
The discovery of Prudhomme’s body came after employees reported a foul odor in the office, which was initially attributed to a possible plumbing issue. However, it was later traced to her cubicle. Most employees at this Wells Fargo location work remotely, and the building is monitored by security personnel 24/7, which may have contributed to the delayed discovery.
A worker shared with the media how the idea of her sitting unnoticed at the desk for so long makes them feel physically ill and deeply disturbed that no one intervened. It haunts them to think those were her final moments, spent alone in that condition.
Wells Fargo also announced plans to review its internal procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The company emphasized the importance of ensuring that all employees, particularly those working in less populated areas, are regularly accounted for.
Prudhomme’s colleagues and loved ones are left to process the sudden loss as the investigation continues. The company has assured full cooperation with law enforcement to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
