Comedian Perry Kurtz, known for his participation in “America’s Got Talent,” was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run on Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. The 73-year-old was crossing the road near the Tarzana area when he was hit by a gray Honda Civic at around 11:20 p.m. on August 15, 2024, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The driver, Nathon Jaimes, 18, of Reseda, left the accident scene without offering assistance. The abandoned car was found by LAPD officers about a half-mile from the scene of the accident. The next day, Jaimes was arrested at his home and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death. He was later released on a $30,000 bond and appeared in court on September 13, 2024. No further update on the case has been reported.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kurtz was a long-standing figure in the Los Angeles comedy circuit. His five-decade-long career included appearances on “The Late Late Show” with James Corden and “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. In 2013, he took part in the 8th season of “America’s Got Talent,” performing a comedic rap about the show’s judges.
Kurtz’s agent and close friend, Dante Rusciolelli, who had represented him for many years, expressed his grief over his loss. Rusciolelli recalled Kurtz’s notable contribution to the Los Angeles comedy scene since 1987 and stated that he will be sorely missed, extending condolences to his family.
The evening of the accident saw Kurtz performing at a local Los Angeles bar, where he posted a video of his act merely hours before his death. He was known for his distinctive humor and commitment to bringing laughter, even in the smallest settings.
Following the announcement of Kurtz’s passing, fans and fellow comedians honored him on social media. His daughter established a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses, stating that her father devoted his life to making others happy, and he would wish to be remembered in that manner.
