NBA Star’s Surprising Presidential Endorsement

When NBA player Steph Curry unexpectedly appeared at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, August 22, 2024, he openly backed Kamala Harris for the presidency via a touching video message. The Golden State Warriors’ point guard, who recently helped Team USA secure a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, highlighted Harris’ potential to bring unity to the nation and encouraged Americans to actively participate in the forthcoming election.

In the video, Curry, with his Olympic gold medal around his neck, underscored the preservation of hope and belief in the nation. He expressed his belief that Harris is aptly qualified for the presidency and shared his privilege in supporting her campaign. He stressed the significance of unified efforts and urged everyone to play their part in the election process.

Known for his remarkable skills on the court and commitment to social issues, Curry expressed trust in Harris’ leadership abilities. Their association dates back to their shared origins in the San Francisco Bay Area. Harris, originally from Oakland, has been a long-standing supporter of the Warriors, and Curry had the opportunity to meet her during the Warriors’ visit to the White House following their 2022 championship victory.

Notably, the convention saw several sports personalities sharing their views on politics. For instance, Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors head coach and Curry’s superior, addressed the audience on the inaugural night of the convention and endorsed Harris for the presidency.

Kerr shared his vision of ideal leadership which, according to him, requires leaders to uphold dignity, be truthful, have a sense of humor, and genuinely care for those they lead. He acknowledged that he found these attributes in Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.

Concluding his speech, Kerr invoked the “Night, Night” celebration gesture made famous by Warriors’ star, Steph Curry. He stated that once the election results are out, they could borrow Curry’s line and tell Donald Trump, “Night, night!”
