Sullivan’s wrestling career started in the 1970s with Championship Wrestling from Florida. It was during this time that he took on the “Prince of Darkness” persona, captivating audiences and becoming one of the industry’s most riveting villains. His rivalries with other wrestling legends like Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham remain some of the most creative and intense storylines of that period.
By the mid-1990s, Sullivan had transitioned to World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he emerged as a pivotal figure. His rivalry with Hulk Hogan produced several iconic matches and solidified Sullivan’s position as one of the industry’s premier heels. However, Sullivan’s later years were marked by health struggles. In May 2024, he experienced a serious accident during an autograph signing event in Florida. He underwent emergency surgery to save his leg, but the procedure led to severe complications, including sepsis and encephalitis. Despite these medical hurdles, Sullivan stayed strong, fighting for his independence. Nevertheless, his health deteriorated, and he passed away a few months later.
Following the announcement of Sullivan’s death, the wrestling world expressed their grief. Ric Flair, a fellow industry legend, shared his sadness on social media, describing Sullivan as “An All Time Great Athlete & Friend.”
“I Am So Saddened To Hear About Kevin Sullivan’s Passing,” he further stated in a post on X. “Rest In Peace Kevin!”
