Ayres Sasaki, a 35-year-old musician from Brazil, tragically lost his life due to an electrocution incident during a live performance on July 13, in Salinópolis, Pará state, Brazil. The episode unfolded at the Solar Hotel where Sasaki was performing, when he embraced a drenched fan, resulting in a fatal electric shock from a nearby cable.
Several media outlets suggest that Sasaki was holding his guitar at the time of the accident.
A comprehensive investigation is being carried out by the Pará Civil Police. “We are interviewing witnesses and have requested expert reports to determine the precise cause of the electrical discharge,” a representative from the police department informed Istoé Gente.
On July 14, The Solar Hotel issued a statement, expressing sympathy and assuring full cooperation with the investigation. “We are fully dedicated to providing support to his family and taking the necessary measures. We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperating with the competent authorities for the proper clarification of the events,” the hotel communicated via its official Instagram account.
The family is in the process of gathering details to comprehend what occurred during the performance.
Sasaki’s passing has triggered an outpouring of sorrow from fans and fellow musicians. Raphael Macedo, a filmmaker and close friend of Sasaki, lamented his demise and remembered his cheerful personality and musical prowess. “Ayres was more than just a talented musician; he was a joyful and kind friend. His loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew him,” Macedo told the Hindustan Times.
Sasaki, who also worked as an architect and urban planner, had married his wife, Mariana, just 11 months before. Mariana has expressed her gratitude for the support and condolences received from fans and friends during this difficult time. “I am deeply touched by the messages of affection and comfort. Ayres was loved by many, and his music brought joy to countless people,” she shared on social media.
The management of the Solar Hotel has reassured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of their venue and prevent similar incidents in the future. “Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests and performers. We are reviewing all safety protocols and working closely with the authorities,” the hotel’s statement read.
This unfortunate incident is not the first of its kind in Brazil. In 2023, Pedro Henrique, a Brazilian gospel singer, also died onstage during a live performance in Feira de Santana. Henrique’s death was also due to an accidental electrocution, underscoring the potential risks associated with live performances and electrical equipment.
As the investigation continues, fans of Ayres Sasaki have been paying tribute to the late singer on social media. Messages of condolences and memories of Sasaki’s performances have been flooding his official Instagram page. One fan wrote, “Your music and spirit will live on in our hearts. Rest in peace, Ayres.” Another added, “Thank you for the joy you brought into our lives through your music.”
Ayres Sasaki leaves behind his wife Mariana, and other family members who continue to receive support from fans and loved ones. The family has requested privacy during this time as they mourn their loss and await further details from the ongoing investigation.
