The reality television community and residents of Huntsville, Alabama are in mourning following the death of Keke Jabbar, a popular cast member from the OWN network series “Love & Marriage: Huntsville.” Jabbar’s passing, at the age of 42, was first confirmed through a family statement read by blogger Marcella Speaks during a YouTube livestream on July 2, 2024.
The family’s statement expressed their deep sorrow, “It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Keke. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by love. She was a mom, a sister, and a great friend full of life, love, and laughter. She will be sorely missed, and at this time, we are asking for respect and privacy in our moment of grief while we process this great loss.”
Born Na’Keisha Dawson-Jabbar, Keke Jabbar was appreciated for her lively spirit and honesty on the reality show, which explores the lives of three African-American couples in Huntsville, Alabama. The show focuses on their relationships and real estate enterprises. Despite the program’s dramatic elements, Jabbar’s affection for her family and her warmth were clearly evident, winning her many admirers.
JoAnn Jenkins, a close family friend, later revealed that the cause of Jabbar’s death was carbon monoxide poisoning. Addressing rumors about Jabbar’s untimely passing, Jenkins stated, “Keke did not overdose; Keke did not take her own life. Keke loved life and wasn’t ready to leave her children or her family.“ Jenkins noted that Jabbar fell asleep in her car after dealing with a vehicle malfunction and was discovered unresponsive by her husband in their garage.
LaTisha Scott, Jabbar’s cousin and co-star on the show, asked for privacy on social media. “This is hard for our Family!!!!! At this time we are asking for RESPECT, and PRIVACY in our moment of grief, while we process this great loss,” Scott posted on Instagram.
In one of her last social media posts, Jabbar shared photos from her eldest son Amaree’s high school graduation, expressing her pride and affection for her children. “My firstborn graduated from high school yesterday, and it was such an emotional experience. I didn’t expect 18 years to go by this fast! We’re so proud of you, Amaree. Go shine like the star you are!!!” she wrote.
Jabbar was not only a television personality but also a writer, editor, and professor. She often celebrated her achievements and those of her family on her social media platforms.
