Body of Missing Teen Found in River

The search for a body reported in the Great Miami River on Sunday, July 7, has ended with the recovery of the body in Middletown, Ohio. After receiving the report at about 3:45 p.m., the Middletown Police Department dispatched first responders to the site at the 4400 block of N. Verity Parkway.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office has identified the body as that of 19-year-old Justin Lewis, Jr. An initial examination suggests drowning as the cause of death, but the exact circumstances leading to his death are still under investigation. The Middletown Police Department is working alongside the coroner’s office in the ongoing inquiry.

The recovery followed reports from the previous day about a missing teenager who was last seen entering the river at Miami River Park. As the search for the teenager intensified, the police issued a public warning via social media, advising locals to avoid the area.

Lewis’s entry into the river on Saturday evening triggered a comprehensive search operation involving multiple agencies. Middletown Fire Chief Paul Lolli stated, “We were hopeful for a different outcome, but tragically, Justin’s body was found. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The search operation pulled together various local agencies, including the Middletown Fire Department, and utilized extensive resources to find Lewis. Firefighters and police officers meticulously searched the riverbanks and used boats to scan the water. Their collaborative efforts highlight the community’s dedication to providing closure to Lewis’s family.

The tragic incident has left residents in a state of sorrow. One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, remarked, “It’s heartbreaking to see such a young life lost this way. The river can be very dangerous, and this is a stark reminder of that.”

In light of the incident, local officials have reiterated the importance of water safety, particularly during the summer when activities near the river tend to increase. They stressed the need for caution when around or in water bodies and the importance of adhering to safety protocols.

The authorities are encouraging anyone with information related to the case to step forward. Tips can be forwarded to the Middletown Police Department.
