A male teen, aged 17, has been taken into custody regarding the murder of Trinity Bostic, also 17, who was reported missing from Macon County, Tennessee last month. Bostic’s remains were located on July 3, 2024, alongside a heavily trafficked route in Hendersonville, Tennessee, by an employee of a Tennessee Department of Transportation subcontractor. The site was roughly 45 miles from Bostic’s home in Lafayette.
The arrest of the suspect, who originates from Westmoreland, Tennessee, was announced by the Hendersonville Police Department on Saturday morning, July 6. Currently, he is held at the Sumner County Detention Center, facing charges of first-degree murder. As the suspect is under 18, his identity has been withheld. He was a classmate of Bostic, both in the same grade.
Local concern and a community search effort were triggered when Bostic was reported missing on June 29, considered a runaway. A friend of Bostic’s reported that she had received a text from Bostic stating she was leaving home. A trash collector discovered her remains in a wooded area near Vietnam Veterans Boulevard and New Shackle Island Road, a discovery that shocked the Hendersonville community and its surrounding areas.
Sgt. Nicholas Edwards of the Hendersonville Police Department confirmed the investigation into Bostic’s death is being handled as a homicide case. “We suspected foul play from the beginning,” Edwards said.
Additional details surrounding Bostic’s death or the events following her reported disappearance have not been disclosed by the police. The cause of death is still pending an autopsy report.
In a public statement, the Hendersonville Police Department has asked for public help. “We are still gathering information and encourage anyone who knows anything about Trinity Bostic’s disappearance or death to contact us. Every piece of information is valuable,” the statement read.
Bostic’s loss has left her friends and family devastated. Jaycee Meador and Khloe Redfield, friends of Trinity, expressed their sorrow and shock. “Trinity was the light of our lives. She was kind, caring, and had so much potential. It’s heartbreaking to think she’s gone,” said Jaycee. Khloe added, “We can’t believe this happened to her. She didn’t deserve this. We hope justice will be served.”
The arrest has elicited both relief and sadness within the community. Many hope that the arrest will lead to further answers and justice for Trinity. The case has gained substantial attention, underscoring the significance of community alertness and support in such tragic circumstances.
In addition to seeking justice, Bostic’s peers have rallied to support her family. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help with funeral costs. “I started it thinking it would not do that well, but it just started to blow up,” said Landon Connor, a classmate. “We’re hoping it continues to draw in money for the family.” The fundraiser has since raised over $12,000.
