In a tragic incident in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, two respected educators and former spouses lost their lives to gun violence on July 13, 2024, leaving behind two young sons.
Patrick Montgomery and Andrieana Montgomery, both 42, were discovered with gunshot wounds in different residences on the same street. Although separated, they resided near each other to effectively co-parent their children, Connor, 12, and Owen, 10.
Upon receiving a call, Durham Regional Police rushed to the scene where they first found Patrick Montgomery critically wounded. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Shortly after, the officers obtained information that led them to Andrieana Montgomery, who was already dead from gunshot wounds in a different home on the same street.
Mark Gordon, a 30-year-old resident of the neighborhood, was apprehended at the scene and is now facing two charges of first-degree murder. The police have confirmed that Gordon was acquainted with both victims. Further details about the motive behind the crime are still under investigation. Gordon, his partner, and their child rented a basement apartment in the same house where Andrieana and her children resided.
Patrick, an ex-left-winger for the Oshawa Generals hockey team, was employed at the Durham Catholic District School Board. Andrieana was an art teacher at Bowmanville High School, where her love for arts inspired a multitude of students.
A GoFundMe campaign, initiated by Mike Modeste to aid their sons, has already raised over $235,000. The page is filled with messages of love and remembrance, reflecting the profound impact Patrick and Andrieana had on their community. Modeste described Patrick as an energetic and caring man who enjoyed being a father and coaching his sons. The campaign also underscores Andrieana’s natural affinity for motherhood and her commitment to her children and students.
Adam Karam-Benton, a neighbor, recounted witnessing Gordon, the suspect, seated on the curb with his hands raised, admitting his guilt. He expressed his shock, stating, “I never expected something like this to happen in our neighborhood.”
As the investigation unfolds, the priority remains on providing support to the Montgomery children and preserving the legacy of their parents. The deaths of Patrick and Andrieana Montgomery have left a lasting imprint on their community.
