Chandler Kuhbander and Raegan Anderson, two firefighters from Georgia and former high school sweethearts, were found dead in Cosby, Tennessee, nearly a week after their disappearance. Their remains were discovered on June 30, 2024, marking the end of a multi-state search operation involving several law enforcement agencies.

According to the Hinesville Police Department in Georgia, the bodies of Kuhbander and Anderson were located on Hollow Road, roughly 400 miles from their last known location. Anderson’s car was also discovered at the scene. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office are spearheading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Anderson, a committed member of the Liberty County Fire Services Station #1 in Midway, Georgia, and Kuhbander, a senior firefighter with the same department, were last spotted on June 24. Anderson was seen on a gas station’s surveillance footage, while Kuhbander was seen departing a Crunch gym in Savannah, Georgia, and getting into Anderson’s car.

Prior to their disappearance, Anderson and Kuhbander experienced a series of unsettling incidents. Their relationship, which started in high school and lasted for seven years, was reportedly stormy. They broke up in 2023, and two days before their disappearance, Anderson was arrested for confronting Kuhbander on a date with another woman at an Olive Garden Restaurant and damaging his car with her keys. She faced charges of second-degree criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.

Jane Kuhbander, Chandler’s mother, expressed deep concern for her son’s safety in the days leading up to the discovery. She mentioned that Anderson had threatened to harm herself multiple times and that her son might not have been with Anderson willingly. “He was telling me she was blowing up his phone, and he said that she had threatened that she was going to commit suicide. And it’s not the first time she’s done it,” she added.

The bodies were found in Anderson’s black 2017 Ford Focus with Georgia license plates. The vehicle had been spotted in various locations, including Savannah and Richmond Hill in Georgia before it was found in Tennessee.

The Liberty County Fire Services released a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of their colleagues. “They put their hearts and souls into protecting and serving the citizens of Liberty County. Our prayers, and those of the department, are with the families during this most difficult time,” the department wrote on Facebook.

An autopsy is scheduled to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances of their deaths. The investigation is still underway as authorities work to reconstruct the series of events leading up to their demise.

The tragic loss of Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander is deeply felt by their community, colleagues, and loved ones. They will be remembered for their dedication to their roles as firefighters and their commitment to public service.
