Chilean country singer Ivana Pino Arellano, known to many as “La Rancherita de Chanco,” died in a car crash on the M-80 road near Pelluhe, Maule Region, Chile. Her death came just a day after her 32nd birthday, on June 15, 2024.
Arellano, a mother of four, was behind the wheel when she lost control of her vehicle on a wet road. The car struck a concrete barrier and overturned on the roadside. Arellano died on the spot, while her passenger suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Cauquenes hospital.
The Municipality of Chanco, where Arellano had a significant fan base, released a statement on social media. They described her as an “unforgettable figure whose charisma will resonate eternally in our lives.” They added, “To us, the name ‘Ivana’ will always symbolize pure happiness and joy. Thank you, Ivana, for bringing us days of light and harmony. Your departure leaves an unfillable void, but your legacy will live on, reminding us of the beauty of your spirit and the generosity of your heart.”
Originally from Chile, Arellano was known for her vocal talents and commanding stage presence. She regularly performed traditional Mexican music known as “ranchera.” Her performances at festivals and events attracted large audiences who admired her singing skills and dynamic personality.
Local media reported significant damage to Arellano’s vehicle, with images showing it overturned on the roadside.
The Municipality of Chanco also recognized Arellano’s contributions to the community, emphasizing her dedication to public service. “Ivana personified the spirit of public service with a passion and love, always ready to help others and find solutions even in the most difficult moments,” stated their release. The statement also acknowledged her dedication to her family, “Her husband and children were the foundation of her life, motivating her every effort and sacrifice.”
Arellano’s death has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew her. Her admirers and community members have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of the singer, highlighting her significant impact on their lives. A local resident stated, “Ivana was always willing to assist others; her generosity was limitless. She will be greatly missed.”
Ivana Pino Arellano was buried at the Curanipe Parish Cemetery in Pelluhe on June 17.
