Two children and two adults were shot at a BP gas station on Wednesday afternoon, June 26, 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The shooting occurred at 60th Street and Oklahoma Avenue around 2:30 p.m.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured three individuals walking towards the gas station, with one carrying a long gun. The suspects opened fire on a white parked Nissan, shooting through the doors and windows. The gunfire struck four people: two women and two children, aged four and nine. The children are expected to survive, but the adults are battling life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. A neighbor told reporters that one woman was shot in the stomach, and the other in the head and elbow.
The neighbor mentioned that a man was present in the car but he emerged uninjured. They recalled hearing one of the hurt children say, “Come with me to the hospital, Daddy”
Milwaukee Police have described the incident as a targeted shooting but have not yet identified a clear motive. They are currently searching for the suspects involved in the attack.
Resident Tracy Fronczak, who lives near the gas station, expressed concern for the neighborhood’s safety. “It’s scary because there are tons of kids in the neighborhood, kids two apartments down. There are kids all over this area out on scooters and bikes. It’s so scary,” she said.
The surveillance footage also showed the suspects fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. They were seen sprinting back across a nearby lot and disappearing from view. Police have not confirmed whether the individuals captured in the footage are the suspects they are seeking.
Eyewitnesses described hearing multiple gunshots, with some estimating the number of shots to be as many as 20. Amanda Figueroa, who was nearby when the shooting occurred, recalled the chaotic scene. “We heard a big loud noise, when we came out people told us it was a shooting,” she said.
The white Nissan involved in the shooting was seen riddled with bullet holes, and video footage from the scene showed the car being loaded onto a trailer to be taken away by authorities.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Milwaukee Police Department has increased patrols in the area and is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are also working with local community leaders to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further violence.
The Milwaukee Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting and is asking anyone with information to contact them.
