Veteran CNN Anchor Dies Suddenly at 58

Alice Stewart, a noted CNN political commentator and seasoned political adviser, passed away at 58. Her body was discovered early Saturday morning in the Belle View area of northern Virginia. Authorities believe she experienced a medical emergency, and no foul play is suspected.

Born in Atlanta on March 11, 1966, Stewart started her career as a local reporter and producer in Georgia. She later moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where she worked as a news anchor. Stewart’s political career took off when she became the communications director for then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. She played a crucial role in Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign and later served in similar roles for Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum’s 2012 presidential bids, as well as Ted Cruz’s 2016 campaign.

Stewart joined CNN as a political commentator in the lead-up to the 2016 election, quickly earning a reputation for her candid analysis and thorough understanding of Republican politics. She was a frequent guest on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” appearing as recently as Friday.

CNN anchors and colleagues remembered Stewart fondly. Dana Bash, CNN’s chief political correspondent, who has known Stewart for nearly two decades, described her as “someone who told it straight.” Maria Cardona, Stewart’s co-host on the podcast “Hot Mics From Left to Right,” expressed her grief, calling Stewart a “loving, shining light.”

“Alice was a wonderful and talented commentator,” Bash said. “Her insights into Republican politics were invaluable, and her presence on our panels will be deeply missed.”

Stewart’s political career was marked by her ability to navigate the often tumultuous world of GOP politics with grace and poise. Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson praised Stewart for believing that “politics was about making friends and not creating enemies.”

Beyond her professional achievements, Stewart was also known for her passions. She was an avid runner, frequently participating in road races nationwide. Stewart often shared photos from her races on social media, including the TCS New York City Marathon and the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile race.

CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer and Jessica Dean paid tribute to Stewart, highlighting her professionalism, expertise, and warm personality. “Alice was an exceptional woman and a valued friend and colleague,” Blitzer said. “Her contributions to our network and the broader political discourse will not be forgotten.”

In addition to her work at CNN, Stewart served on the senior advisory committee at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s Kennedy School, where she was also a former fellow. Her dedication to mentoring the next generation of political leaders was well recognized.

Stewart’s death is a significant loss to the political and media communities. As the news of her passing spread, many took to social media to share their condolences and memories. “Alice Stewart was a beacon of light in the often murky world of politics,” Cardona tweeted. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”

Alice Stewart’s impact on political commentary and her unwavering commitment to her work have left a lasting legacy. Her ability to provide precise, thoughtful analysis in a complex political landscape was a testament to her expertise and dedication. Her loss will be felt by colleagues, friends, and viewers alike.
