Country singer and actress Jana Kramer voiced concerns about NFL player Travis Kelce’s behavior and its potential influence on his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. On her “Whine Down” podcast on May 6, 2024, Kramer, 40, criticized Kelce, 34, for allegedly drinking excessively and being aggressive.
During her podcast, Kramer claimed, “In every video I’ve seen, he appears to be drunk.” She voiced worries that his habits might influence Taylor Swift, 34, and added, “I notice her drinking more now—like the company you keep.” Kramer also criticized Kelce’s conduct toward Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid at the Super Bowl, remarking, “The Super Bowl incident rubbed me the wrong way… that aggression.”
Despite initially thinking Kelce and Swift were “the cutest” couple, Kramer said Kelce “remind[s] [her] of an ex” due to his demeanor. While Kramer didn’t name the ex-partner directly, her guest Josie Van Dyke suggested she was referring to Kramer’s former husband, Washington Redskins player Mike Caussin.
Kramer also found Kelce’s enthusiastic embrace of the spotlight since dating Swift as “corny” and “cheesy” due to his “loving the attention.”
Travis Kelce was reportedly disturbed by Kramer’s remarks, especially since he had never met her. A source close to Kelce told Page Six, “Her remarks take him aback, and he thinks she decided to target his romance with Swift for attention.”
Another source defended Kelce, noting that his high-profile status puts him “under a microscope, with people watching him wherever he goes. Naturally, you’ll see him drinking.”
The source continued, “It’s not like he’s passed out anywhere. If that were the case, I’d understand the concern, but that’s not what’s happening.” Instead, Kelce is “just a regular person” whose actions are exaggerated because of his fame.
Kramer’s comments also faced backlash on social media. One user tweeted, “How is someone who has been married more than once in a position to judge Travis and Taylor?”
Another added, “Jana Kramer can sit down and shut up… You don’t even know him. PERIOD.”
Kelce’s relationship with Swift has been in the spotlight, with the couple frequently making headlines. In December 2023, Swift spoke publicly about their relationship for the first time, expressing her admiration for Kelce’s support. “I’m going to watch him do what he loves, and we’re there for each other,” she told Time magazine. “We’re just proud of each other.”
Responding to Kramer’s comments, Kelce acknowledged the public scrutiny surrounding his romance with Swift and said he is “learning” to manage the attention. “You just have to keep living, learning, and enjoying the moments,” he said.
Despite the scrutiny, Kelce and Swift continue to attend events together. They were recently spotted at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky, and Patrick Mahomes’ charity event in Las Vegas.
