According to journalist Petronella Wyatt, Prince William is supposedly obstructing attempts to repair the strained relationship between Prince Harry and King Charles III. Wyatt, a friend of Queen Camilla, made these claims in her column for the Daily Telegraph, citing a source who formerly worked at the palace.
The former palace official, who has worked closely with both princes, was quoted by Wyatt as saying, “There is a public misconception about William and Harry. It is William who was often the difficult one, and it is William who is preventing his father from having a proper reconciliation with Harry.”
Wyatt highlighted the importance of this issue at a time when the unity of the royal family could greatly benefit the nation. Prince Harry, 39, and his family have been living separately since his resignation from royal duties and relocation to California in 2020.
During a recent visit to London for the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary, Prince Harry did not meet any family members. The last time he interacted with King Charles, 75, was briefly in February, following the king’s cancer diagnosis news.
A friend of Prince William and Kate Middleton revealed to the Daily Beast that Wyatt’s statements contain some truth. However, the friend also added that Prince William would not dictate his father’s actions in relation to his other son, as King Charles’ main priority is the monarchy’s unity.
Wyatt also asserted that Prince Harry was not treated well by Prince William and King Charles before his departure from royal life. She suggested that Prince Harry’s return to the royal family would symbolize many British family units, strengthening the monarchy.
During Prince Harry’s recent visit to the UK, sources close to the king said that King Charles offered Prince Harry a place to stay, which he turned down. However, sources close to the prince claim that he requested a meeting with his father ahead of his trip, but King Charles declined. Friends of the king firmly dispute this, stating that King Charles met Prince Harry during a vulnerable time in his illness.
