Jennifer Leak, a respected actress recognized for her roles in soap operas such as “The Young and the Restless,” “Another World,” “Guiding Light,” and the 1968 film “Yours, Mine and Ours,” has passed away at the age of 76.
The actress’s death was disclosed by her former husband, actor Tim Matheson, on March 27. Matheson, 76, paid homage to Leak’s extraordinary talent and resilience. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jennifer Leak’s passing,” Matheson posted on Facebook, recalling their shared experiences both on and off the screen. They portrayed step-siblings in “Yours, Mine and Ours” and were married in real life.
Leak passed away at her residence in Jupiter, Florida, on March 18. She had been battling progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurological disorder, which eventually resulted in her death.
Leak’s career in the entertainment industry spanned multiple decades, starting in the mid-1960s with her initial role in the Canadian drama series “Wojeck.” She later appeared in American series like “Hawaii Five-O” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” before transitioning to film and then American soap operas, gaining her recognition and praise.
Leak and Matheson’s relationship extended beyond their professional collaboration; they were married from 1968 until their split in 1971. In his tribute, Matheson extended his sympathy to Leak’s husband of 47 years, James D’Auria, and acknowledged the profound loss felt by those who knew her. “My deepest condolences go out to her husband, James D’Auria, and their multitude of friends,” conveyed Matheson.
In “Yours, Mine and Ours,” Leak portrayed one of the daughters, Colleen, with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball playing her parents. The film tells the story of a blended family managing life with 18 children, offering both challenges and humor. The movie remains a classic and inspired a 2005 remake starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo.
Leak stepped back from acting in the 1980s and launched a second career as a real estate agent. Her 1977 marriage to D’Auria marked a new phase of her life outside the entertainment world.
Leak is survived by her husband and her brother.
