A bachelor party in Baton Rouge, Louisiana took a tragic turn when 26-year-old father of two, Devin Michael Repath, died after a violent fight. The incident took place near Louisiana State University’s (LSU) campus.
The altercation started around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Fred’s Bar in Tigerland, a popular spot among locals and LSU students. Baton Rouge police indicate that the disagreement initially started indoors before it escalated and moved to the establishment’s parking lot, where Repath was knocked unconscious during a fierce fistfight.
Following the incident, Repath was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries by the early hours of Tuesday, March 26. The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, officially ruling the incident as a homicide.
On the night of the incident, the bar was hosting a “Battle of the Bands” event, leading to a larger-than-usual crowd. The Baton Rouge Police Department, working with LSU campus police, is thoroughly investigating the case, including analyzing surveillance footage to identify every individual involved in the incident.
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore highlighted the difficulties investigators are facing due to the “lot of unknowns” in the case.
Repath, an elevator mechanic from Jefferson Parish, had traveled to Baton Rouge specifically for the bachelor party. He leaves behind his partner, Sheylli Pantoja, and their two young sons, four-year-old Melo and eight-month-old Liam.
In response to the tragic event, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Pantoja and her children. The campaign has already exceeded its initial goal, raising over $60,000. Moreover, Repath’s decision to donate his organs, which could potentially save up to seven lives, has been highlighted as a testament to his impactful legacy.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They aim to reconstruct the events leading to Repath’s death to ensure justice is served for him and his family.
