Newlyweds Gunned Down at Local Bar

In Elkhorn, Wisconsin, a newlywed couple was shot and killed inside the Sports Page Barr during the early hours of Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Gina Weingart, 37, a bartender at the bar, and her husband, Emerson Weingart, 33, lost their lives to a senseless act of violence. A person of interest has been taken into custody.

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight, with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office receiving a 911 call reporting shots fired at the Sports Page Barr.

By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, the couple had died from their injuries. The tragedy has left the small community of Elkhorn in shock, as such violent incidents are rare in the area.

The Weingarts recently tied the knot in June 2023, beginning a new chapter in their lives together. Gina worked part-time as a bartender at the Sports Page, and Emerson often joined her at the bar to keep her company during her late-night shifts.

The owner of the bar, Jordan Barr, expressed his devastation on Facebook, describing the Weingarts as dear friends and beloved members of the Sports Page family. He condemned the act as cowardly, echoing the sentiments of the entire community.

Elkhorn police have been diligently investigating the case, and on Monday, they announced a significant development. A person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with these shooting deaths.

It is important to note that the individual was apprehended on an unrelated matter, and the investigation into the motive and circumstances of the shooting continues.

Authorities have yet to determine whether the shooting was specifically targeted or if it was a random act of violence. The motive behind the tragic incident remains elusive.

Emerson’s brother, Leland Weingart, expressed the family’s grief: “We are all just devastated right now and pray that Emerson and Gina get the justice they deserve.”

Funeral services for the beloved couple are scheduled for Saturday, February 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, Wisconsin.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact the Elkhorn Police Department.
