A 59-year-old man, Ruben Silver, was found dead in the driver’s seat of a car engulfed in flames in front of his home near a cemetery on the evening of February 13, New York City police reported. The incident occurred on Marginal Street near Highland Boulevard in the Cypress Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) responded to the scene shortly after an explosion and fire were reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 8:03 p.m., only to be greeted by the unexpected outcome.
Silver was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
The victim, described by neighbors as a quiet and unassuming individual, was mourned by those who knew him. Neighbors have expressed their grief, recalling Silver as a person who, despite his reserved demeanor, was always ready to extend a helping hand.
The NYPD has not determined whether foul play was involved. The investigation remains in its early stages, with the FDNY’s Fire Marshal’s Office tasked with uncovering the fire’s origin. Concurrently, the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to ascertain the precise cause of Silver’s death through forensic analysis.
The scene, which lay eerily close to Silver’s residence, prompted immediate questions, with no prior reports of distress or conflict.
