A fatal shooting took place at an Aldi supermarket in Mörfelden-Walldorf, located south of Frankfurt, Germany, on January 15, 2024. The victim, a 38-year-old employee named Aysel I., was shot and killed by her former boyfriend, 48-year-old Plamen P.
Aysel, who was of Turkish descent but born in Bulgaria, had been residing in Germany for over a decade. Her relationship with Plamen, which lasted for five months, had ended half a year ago during a holiday in Bulgaria, their birth country.
The end of their relationship marked the beginning of a horrific ordeal for Aysel. Plamen started to stalk her persistently.
In response, Aysel sought legal help, reported Plamen to the police several times, and successfully secured a restraining order against him.
Aysel had previously voiced her concerns about her safety, warning others, “One day, I’ll go to work and won’t come home. He will come and kill me.”
On the evening of January 15th, around 7:15 p.m., Plamen walked into the Aldi supermarket where Aysel was employed.
After a brief altercation, Plamen drew a semi-automatic firearm and shot Aysel multiple times in the head. He then turned the weapon on himself, committing suicide.
The horrific event unfolded in the presence of numerous stunned shoppers and employees. Aysel had been employed at the Aldi store for a year.
Plamen was due to appear in court on February 15th for a hearing regarding a previous assault against Aysel, when he is alleged to have gone to her apartment and choked her.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, focusing on the events leading up to the incident and how Plamen came into possession of the firearm used in the attack.
