Renowned for her roles in iconic films and television shows, actress Lynne Marta has died at 78.
Marta, whose career illuminated screens for over 40 years, died from cancer on January 11 in her Los Angeles home.
Hailing from Somerville, New Jersey, she was born on October 31, 1945.
Her acting career began in the 1960s. She began her on-screen journey with “The Lloyd Thaxton Show” and made appearances on “Gidget” and “The Monkees.”
Marta is best remembered for her performances in “Joe Kidd” (1972) and “Footloose” (1984), where she played notable characters that contributed to her lasting reputation in film history.
In “Joe Kidd,” she captivated audiences as a landowner’s associate alongside Robert Duvall, their dynamics intriguing a character played by Clint Eastwood.
In “Footloose,” her character Lulu Warnicker became an integral part of the story as the aunt to Kevin Bacon’s protagonist, Ren.
Her television achievements were as notable as her film work, with a consistent presence on the series “Love, American Style,” and roles in various productions by Aaron Spelling, including “The Mod Squad” and “Charlie’s Angels.”
Her versatility shone through diverse parts in crime dramas, comedies, and soap operas like “Passions” and “Days of Our Lives.”
Her personal life, especially her romantic relationship with “Starsky & Hutch” actor David Soul, was also part of her public persona. Ironically, her death follows Soul’s passing several weeks ago.
Marta is survived by her two daughters, sister MJ, and her cat, Mr. Peaches.
