In the early hours of Sunday morning, January 14, 2024, a shooting incident occurred in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, turning a home allegedly operating as an illegal speakeasy, also known as a bar, into a scene of chaos and despair.
Two men were fatally shot, and four other people were injured in an incident just before 1 a.m. on North Myrtlewood Street in the 2400 block.
When Philadelphia Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports about an individual armed with a gun, they were met with a distressing situation.
Inside the residence, three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. A 53-year-old man was deceased from a facial gunshot wound. Another man, aged 41, who had multiple chest gunshot wounds, later died at Temple University Hospital. The last victim they found, a 42-year-old man, was treated in the hospital for a gunshot wound to the hand and was in stable condition.
Additionally, three others were injured in the incident: a 22-year-old woman was shot in the leg, a 28-year-old man was shot three times in his leg and hip, and a 33-year-old woman was shot twice in the arm. They arrived at local hospitals in private vehicles. All three were listed in stable condition.
The Philadelphia Police Department has indicated that the shooter or shooters were positioned in the street, firing into the home through the front door and window. This presumption is supported by the discovery of multiple 9mm shell casings scattered across the street outside the residence.
As of now, the investigation remains active and ongoing, with no arrests made. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed, preserving their anonymity during this sensitive time.
