A tragic plane crash in Parker County, Texas, has led to the loss of three lives on the afternoon of Sunday, January 14, 2024.
Dr. Heath Smith, a renowned bariatric surgeon and vice president of the Paradise Independent School District Board, along with his two young children, Noah, aged six, and Wyatt, aged eight, were the unfortunate casualties.
The crash took place at approximately 1:15 p.m. when the family was returning from a hunting trip. The aircraft involved, a twin-engine Cessna 310, was flying from Dimmit County Airport in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Bridgeport Municipal Airport, located just northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth.
Based on reports, the aircraft never arrived at its destination and was discovered crashed in a pasture approximately 10 miles southwest of its intended landing spot.
Dr. Smith’s contributions to his community were recognized by the superintendent of the Paradise Independent School District, Will Brewer.
Brewer expressed deep sorrow over the untimely loss, labeling Dr. Smith as an integral member of the school district, admired for his dedication to the district, and his notable influence as an alumnus, parent, and board member.
Smith, a native of Paradise, Texas, was an alumnus of Texas A&M University at College Station.
He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree and completed his residency at Virginia Tech/Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.
His medical proficiency spanned bariatric surgery, colonoscopy, colorectal surgery, and surgical oncology. He was a part of My Bariatric Solutions, where his biography highlighted his dedication to his work. Dr. Smith leaves behind a wife and 11-year-old son.
The Texas Department of Public Safety, along with other agencies, are currently conducting an investigation to ascertain the cause of the crash. The precise circumstances that led to the accident remain unknown at this time.
