Three Kansas City Chiefs fans, identified as David Harrington (37), Ricky Johnson (38), and Clayton McGeeney (36), were found frozen to death in the backyard of a residence in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 9, 2024.
This incident occurred following their attendance at a watch party hosted by Jordan Willis for the Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers game on January 7.
The bodies were discovered after the fiancée of one of the men called the police and requested a welfare check after she was unsuccessful in reaching Willis. She broke into Willis’ house and found one body on the back porch. Police located the other two bodies in the backyard.
Willis, who met police in his underwear and holding an empty wine glass, claims to have been unaware of the men’s presence in his yard.
Willis, an HIV researcher, had invited the victims and a fifth unidentified individual to his home for the game. According to his attorney, John Picerno, Willis went to bed while the others continued to socialize. Willis has since moved out of the house and deleted his social media accounts amid public scrutiny.
Family members of the deceased have expressed skepticism and frustration over inconsistencies in Willis’s story and the lack of clear answers regarding the deaths.
Initially, Willis claimed to have seen the men leave his home but later stated he was unaware when they left. The victims’ families, demanding answers, have raised questions about the circumstances leading to their deaths.
The Kansas City Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into the case. Autopsy results are pending, and it could take weeks to determine the cause of death. As of now, the police have not indicated any evidence of foul play and are not treating the incident as a homicide.
The temperature on the day of the game was reported to have a high of 41°F and a low of 32°F, with temperatures dropping into the teens in the subsequent days.
The families of the deceased await further information from the ongoing police investigation and the results of the medical examinations.
