In Grayson, Georgia, a house party turned tragic when an 18-year-old mother was found dead in the early hours of Friday morning, December 29, 2023.
The Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a call just after 1 a.m. at a Chance Lane residence. When officers arrived, they encountered a party.
On the back patio of the home, they found Shania Green’s body, which appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Green, a resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, had celebrated her 18th birthday just a month prior and was the mother of a seven-month-old son.
Her family, reeling from the sudden loss, remembered her as a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, granddaughter, and niece.
Her aunt, Sade Long, described Green as having an infectious smile and laughter, bringing positive energy everywhere she went. She was often found taking care of her young son or spending time with her family.
The night of the shooting, neighbors reported hearing a series of gunshots and witnessed several young adults scrambling to leave the area. A neighbor shared a cellphone video showing the chaos as partygoers tried to flee the scene. The homeowner was not there at the time, and the son was hosting the party.
As the investigation continues, the Gwinnett County Police Department has not yet identified any suspects. They urge anyone with information to come forward.
Sade Long has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover Green’s funeral expenses, emphasizing that her niece’s life was taken by a stray bullet during the party. The campaign has raised over $10,000.
