A young man, named only as Sebastian, 19, was apprehended in Quiroga, Michoacan, Mexico, following the gruesome murder of his 26-year-old sister, Julieta. Authorities identified the suspect but did not disclose his full name.
On December 30, 2023, bystanders reported seeing an intoxicated Sebastian carrying his sister’s decapitated head near a state-run clinic in broad daylight. Police were promptly alerted.
Law enforcement officers located the suspect near the clinic and apprehended him without further incident. A rifle was seized from Sebastian at the time of his arrest.
The Michoacan State Police discovered Julieta’s naked body near a gas station, not far from the clinic. Her severed head was found a short distance from her body.
Sebastian is currently in the custody of the Michoacan state prosecutor’s office, where he is under investigation for the alleged murder of his sister.
This horrific crime bears a striking resemblance to another gruesome incident that occurred in San Mateo Atenco, State of Mexico, in October 2022. In that instance, a man named Lev Norman was arrested with Lucero Yazmin’s severed head in his backpack. Norman, found blood-soaked and under the influence of drugs, confessed to the crime and led police to Yazmin’s body.
These shocking cases highlight the alarming rate of murders and femicides in Mexico, where, according to government data, an average of 10 women or girls are killed daily by intimate partners or family members.
The motive behind Julieta’s murder is still undisclosed, and it is unclear whether there are other suspects involved in the case.
No additional information has been provided by the Michoacan State Prosecutor’s office at this time. As the investigation unfolds, more details about the tragic incident are expected to emerge.
