Angus Mitchell, the esteemed son of legendary hairstylist Paul Mitchell, has died at 53.
The news of his passing was confirmed following reports that he was found in the swimming pool at his Honolulu home.
Law enforcement responded to a call early Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024, with reports suggesting that Angus appeared to have drowned. An official cause of death has yet to be released.
Angus Mitchell was a significant figure in the beauty industry, following in his father’s footsteps. He was the co-owner of John Paul Mitchell Systems, a company founded by his father in 1980.
After his father’s death from pancreatic cancer in 1989, also at the age of 53, Angus inherited his father’s stake in the company and its associated schools. His career in hairstyling was deeply influenced by his father, and he often acknowledged that most of what he learned came from him.
Before establishing his presence in Beverly Hills, Angus spent several years working in Hawaii.
In 2010, he opened the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills, building his legacy in the beauty industry. Angus’ influence wasn’t confined to hairstyling alone. He was a known educator, model, and spokesperson for MITCH, a men’s line under the JPMS brand.
He was dedicated to his family as well as his profession. Angus married three times: his first wife was Michelle Raab, followed by Sian, with whom he shares an eight-year-old son named Dylan, and his current wife, Mara.
The night before his untimely passing, Angus shared moments with friends at his home, where they enjoyed Hawaiian music together, as seen in an Instagram video.
Angus Mitchell’s contributions to the beauty industry and philanthropy were recognized through various accolades, including being named #1 Platform Artist by Be magazine and receiving honors from the Alternative Hair Show for leukemia research. His passing has profoundly impacted his family, friends, and the hairstyling community, all of whom mourn the loss of a talented and influential figure.
Investigations into the exact cause of his drowning continue as those close to him remember his life and legacy.
