A popular Memphis disc jockey, Ricky Buchanan, known professionally as ‘Slick Rick,’ was found decapitated in his Berclair home on January 24, 2024. His brother, John Buchanan, made the gruesome discovery at around 2:30 p.m.
John Buchanan, upon finding his brother, immediately called 911, although he initially thought Ricky’s coat was over his head due to the cold. However, upon closer inspection, he realized the grim reality.

However, following an incident in 2014 where he was shot outside a club, he became more reclusive and had difficulty finding work. Their mother reportedly owned the club. The shooting incident significantly impacted Ricky’s life, causing him to withdraw from public life.

Gina Moore, a close family friend who knew Ricky through his work at the Stage Stop club in Raleigh, described the news as especially shocking, given Ricky’s survival of the multiple gunshot attack in 2014.
