In a shocking and gruesome discovery, New York City police have identified the remains found in a woman’s freezer, in the Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn, as those of a missing drug dealer.
Heather Stines, a 45-year-old resident and mother of two living on Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush, was taken into custody after officers received an anonymous tip leading them to her apartment.
Inside her freezer, they found a severed head and other body parts wrapped in black plastic bags. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Kawsheen Gelzer, also known as Dave Draper.
The Investigation Unfolds
The investigation began on January 22, 2024, when the NYPD received a tip about a possible dead body in Heather Stines’ refrigerator.
When officers arrived at her apartment, she became combative, leading to her arrest. Upon inspecting the freezer, a horrifying discovery was made.
Detectives identified the victim as Kawsheen Gelzer through distinctive tattoos noted in his arrest records.
Heather Stines’ Shocking Revelation
During her interrogation, Heather Stines, originally from Kentucky, made a chilling confession. She claimed that her husband, Nicholas McGee, had killed Gelzer in September 2023 during a dispute over drugs and subsequently dismembered the body, placing the remains in their freezer.
At the time of her revelation, Nicholas McGee was already imprisoned in Virginia for unrelated charges, rendering him incapable of immediate questioning.
A Suspicious Past
Kawsheen Gelzer, the victim, was a 40-year-old drug dealer who had been missing since September. He had a history of criminal activities, including drug-related offenses and being a registered sex offender with prior convictions for child molestation.
Heather Stines and Nicholas McGee, the couple at the center of this horrifying incident, were known to have struggled with drug addiction. It is reported that Gelzer had previously been allowed to sleep in their apartment. Stines had recently become reluctant to let anyone near the refrigerator, which had been taped up to conceal any odor.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
As of now, Heather Stines has been charged with concealing a human corpse. Police are working diligently to determine the exact cause of Kawsheen Gelzer’s death and to establish any connections between Stines and the gruesome discovery.
Neighbors in Shock
Neighbors of the couple have expressed their shock and disbelief over the horrifying revelation. Many were aware of Gelzer’s disappearance but had no knowledge of the gruesome details that would eventually come to light.
The Investigation Continues
The NYPD’s investigation is ongoing, with a focus on determining the complete circumstances of this unsettling find. DNA testing is underway to establish any possible links between Stines and the discovered remains.
