In Brockton, Massachusetts, a fatal shooting at the Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet on Crescent Street has led to the arrest of two men.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, January 12, 2024, around 8 p.m., claimed the life of 22-year-old Joe Araujo.
One of the men arrested has been identified as an 18-year-old man who has been charged with murder. Charges against the other man have not been disclosed.
Authorities arrived at the scene following a dispatch call just before 7:30 p.m. During their investigation, witnesses told police that the suspect was a dark-skinned male wearing a ski mask.
According to surveillance footage, the assailant entered the restaurant, approached Araujo, and fired the gun before fleeing the scene.
Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police swiftly launched an intensive investigation, culminating in the Monday night arrests.
Joe Araujo, a Brockton resident, was known as a loving individual and a father of two young boys. He was a graduate of Brockton High School and worked in a kitchen at a retirement community.
The incident has taken a profound toll on Araujo’s family. His mother, Ana Inocencio, expressed her disbelief and grief over the loss of her son. His sisters, Andrea Monteiro and Vera Lopes, have publicly voiced their anguish and the irrevocable impact of their brother’s death.
They remembered their brother as a very loving and lovable individual, often resolving any disagreements quickly with expressions of love. Lopes reflected on her role as an older sibling and her inability to protect him in this situation.
The motive behind the shooting is not known; however, the crime is believed to be targeted, as stated by the authorities.
The suspects are scheduled for arraignment at the Brockton District Court. The police continue to seek information from witnesses or anyone who may have relevant information about the case.
