A routine firewood delivery turned deadly in Fort Worth, Texas, when 51-year-old Scotty Jackson was fatally assaulted by a naked, 27-year-old man, Chrisantus Omondi. The incident took place on Saturday, January 13, as detailed in a police affidavit.
Jackson, known for his industrious and sociable demeanor, was delivering firewood ahead of an expected cold snap. He was discovered deceased in the front yard of a residence, having sustained critical injuries to his head and neck.
The incident unfolded as Jackson and the homeowner, who was assisting with the unloading, were approached by a naked Omondi, who was renting the property through Airbnb. Asserting that he owned the property, Omondi demanded they vacate the premises. Despite Jackson’s attempts to explain their legitimate presence and the homeowner’s property rights, Omondi’s hostility intensified. He assaulted Jackson with a log of firewood, inflicting fatal head injuries. The homeowner, although attacked, managed to get away and call for help.
Upon arrival, police found Jackson in critical condition, but attempts to save him were unsuccessful. Omondi had retreated to his Airbnb rental and threatened another tenant. When law enforcement arrived at the Airbnb, they encountered an aggressive and non-compliant Omondi. He was eventually subdued with a taser and arrested.
Omondi now faces charges of murder, aggravated assault against a security officer, and obstruction of justice. He is being held on a bond exceeding $300,000.
According to law enforcement records, this was not Omondi’s first brush with the law. He previously held a security guard at gunpoint in Tarrant County last year and has a history of evading arrest.
In the aftermath, Jackson’s family, dealing with their loss and shock, are seeking justice and a fitting farewell for a father who, in their view, “deserved so much better.” Kasey Deleon, Jackson’s daughter, spoke of her father’s commitment to ensuring everyone had sufficient firewood, underlining his kind nature and devotion to community service. Tragically, this last delivery intended to provide warmth for a family ended in his untimely death.
