In Houston, Texas, on Christmas Day, a mother of three was shot dead by her husband, who turned the gun on himself, leaving their three daughters orphaned.
Houston Police responded to a distress call around 10:15 p.m. Upon arrival at a Grasilia Street residence, they discovered the bodies of Fannie Uresti, 34, and her husband, 43-year-old Roberto Hernandez, in an upstairs bedroom, both having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The couple’s daughters, aged six, nine, and 14, were present in the house at the time of the shooting and were unharmed. The eldest child reported hearing an argument between her parents, followed by gunshots.
Investigations into the incident revealed a backdrop of marital strife. Uresti had filed a police report on December 14, voicing concerns over Hernandez’s behavior, including tracking her movements and her preparations to seek a divorce.
Uresti’s mother, Rosa Salinas, in her statement, described a history of arguments and controlling behavior by Hernandez, including situations where he pulled out a gun, restricted her social interactions, and prevented her from leaving the house. Salinas said she had been living with her daughter but was visiting relatives in Mexico at the time of the shooting.
Houston homicide detectives are investigating the crime.
The Texas Crime Victim’s Assistance Compensation fund has supported the family, which is covering funeral costs up to $6,500.
Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist with funeral expenses for Fannie Uresti.
Custody of the children was granted to Hernandez’s sister.
