A Japanese tourist, aged 56, tragically passed away after doing a bungee jump from the Macau Tower, a renowned location in Macau, China for extreme sports enthusiasts. The incident occurred in the afternoon of December 3, 2023, following the tourist’s jump from 764 feet above ground.
The Macau Tower, reaching a height of 1,100 feet, is a popular site for those seeking extreme thrills. It offers the tallest commercial bungee jump in the world and attracts a large number of visitors each year. The bungee jump, managed by Skypark by AJ Hackett, is priced at approximately $360.
After the jump, the tourist began to experience shortness of breath. Emergency services promptly responded, taking him to Conde S. Januário Hospital in Macau, where he was later pronounced dead. Local media reports highlighted that there were no visible external injuries on the tourist.
Participants of the jump are required by Skypark to reveal any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or previous surgeries. These disclosures are part of Skypark’s stringent safety measures. The company, responsible for over four million jumps globally, upholds a high standard of safety for both its clients and staff.
Besides its extreme sports offerings, the Macau Tower also features two observation decks with views over the Macau Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane. The tower is also home to several restaurants, a cinema, a casino, and a shopping area, making it a comprehensive destination for visitors.
The Macau Peninsula is located on China’s southern coast, 37 miles west of Hong Kong. It’s surrounded by the South China Sea to the east and south, and is bordered by the Guangdong city of Zhuhai to the west and north.
