A coal mine accident in northern China’s Shanxi province resulted in the deaths of three people.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, when four people were cleaning a bunker for storing coal. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear.
The accident took place at the Huajin Coking Coal Company, located in Shanxi province, known for being a major coal-producing region in China.
Rescue workers were able to save one person, but despite resuscitation efforts, three other individuals did not survive.
China has been actively working to enhance mine safety measures to prevent such accidents, which unfortunately occur with some frequency in the region.
This incident is not isolated, as previous occurrences in the province and nearby areas have also resulted in casualties.
In August, a coal mine explosion in Shanxi province claimed the lives of 11 people.
Following this, in September, a coal mine fire in the southern province of Guizhou resulted in 16 fatalities.
Last month, a significant fire at a building belonging to a coal mining company in Shanxi province led to the deaths of 26 people and injured dozens more. It’s important to note that this fire was not in the mine itself, highlighting the range of safety concerns in the mining industry in China.
The efforts to improve safety in coal mines are part of a broader initiative by the Chinese government to address the frequent accidents in this sector.
