A 46-year-old man from Ocean City, New Jersey has been charged with the murder of his 74-year-old mother.
On the afternoon of December 8, 2023, Jeffrey Surgent reportedly made a 911 call just before 4 p.m., in which he disclosed his bipolar disorder and confessed to killing his mother, Alexandria Surgent.
Responding to the call, police arrived at the apartment complex located at 600 block of Sixth Street. There, they found Jeffrey Surgent nude in the hallway, lying on top of his mother’s decapitated body.
According to an affidavit, Surgent was found covered in blood and in a state of distress. He was reportedly screaming repeatedly that he had killed his mother and was sorry, and he began singing “Jesus Loves Me.”
Investigators revealed that surveillance footage obtained from the Housing Authority, which oversees the apartment complex, showed Surgent peeking out of his apartment just as his mother’s head was rolled into the hallway. Surgent then dragged out her body and laid on top of it until the arrival of the police.
Jeffrey Surgent was taken to a secure medical facility under police watch and later transferred to the Cape May County Correctional Facility. A detention hearing for Surgent is scheduled for December 20.
The body was positively identified as Alexandria Surgent, who resided in the 400 block of Central Avenue.
The investigation into this gruesome murder is ongoing.
