A Knoxville, Tennessee, man is facing second-degree murder charges following a deadly shooting that occurred after an argument over dog waste, the Knoxville Police Department has reported.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, Knoxville police officers were called to a residence on East Oldham Avenue.
Upon arrival, they discovered a man who had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Despite efforts by the responding officers to save his life, the man was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Stefen White, was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim that turned violent over White’s not cleaning up dog feces in the yard they shared. During the confrontation, White is accused of drawing a handgun and shooting the man in the chest.
Witness statements, as per the arrest warrant, contradict White’s claim that the victim had hit him in the face prior to the shooting.
White was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. The identity of the victim has not been released as the investigation continues.
White appeared in court on December 28 and is scheduled for another appearance on January 11, 2024. His bond was set at $100,000, and as of the latest updates, attorney information has not been disclosed in jail records.
The incident has prompted an ongoing investigation by detectives from the Knoxville Police Department’s Homicide Unit. They are piecing together the events that led up to the fatal shooting.
