On Saturday, November 25, 2023, 17-year-old Hannah Layton was fatally shot in the head at a home in Richmond, Texas. Upon their arrival, Richmond Police found her body inside the house on Crestwood Drive.
The alleged perpetrator, a 16-year-old boy also from Richmond, has been taken into custody and faces murder charges. The incident was initially indicated by a gunshot heard on a neighbor’s surveillance system around 7:30 p.m.
Patricia Layton, Hannah’s mother, reported that her daughter was shot from behind, leading to immediate death. She expressed her sorrow and her lack of knowledge about her daughter’s acquaintances. The suspect is being held at the Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention Center.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Hannah and the suspect were alone in the house at the time of the incident. The suspect, who remained on-site, told the police they were friends.
In response to her daughter’s death, Patricia Layton is calling for community support and justice. She has launched a GoFundMe for funeral expenses and is gathering information from Hannah’s schoolmates for the investigation.
