A 41-year-old known gang member and convicted felon, Louis Peter Hernandez III, is facing multiple murder charges following a deadly shooting spree in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, California.
The rampage, occurring over the November 25-26, 2023 weekend, resulted in three fatalities and left one person critically injured.
On November 25, 2023, in Fontana, Hernandez allegedly invaded a residence and then shot and killed his girlfriend, Angelina Urbano, 26, from San Bernardino, and Romaldo De La Rosa, 54, from Colton.
The following day, in Jurupa Valley, he reportedly shot his ex-girlfriend, Dianna Couer, who was found deceased in her vehicle.
A fourth victim, involved in an altercation with Hernandez at a Park and Ride near Etiwanda Avenue and Mission Boulevard off the 60 Freeway, sustained gunshot wounds and is currently hospitalized.
After the shootings, Hernandez was apprehended in Ontario, California. He had jumped into the back of a pickup truck at a red light, with the unsuspecting driver later calling 911, leading to his arrest. A firearm, believed to be the weapon used in the shootings, was recovered during the arrest.
The suspected killer was on both probation and parole at the time of the attacks and has a criminal history that includes auto theft, assault with a firearm, and evading a police officer. He has been charged with three counts of murder and one count of assault with a firearm. The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has also filed special allegations for prior felonies and special circumstances for multiple murders, potentially qualifying this as a capital case.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on November 29, with no bail set. His next court date is scheduled for December 4 at the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Courthouse.
This case continues to be a subject of investigation, with the potential for additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation involving the fourth victim.
The families of the victims have set up GoFundMe accounts to help cover funeral expenses as they mourn.
