Renowned actor Ryan O’Neal, best known for his iconic roles in classic films such as “Love Story,” passed away on December 8, 2022, at the age of 82.
The official cause of his death, as stated on his death certificate, was congestive heart failure due to cardiomyopathy, a condition affecting the heart muscle.
O’Neal’s illustrious career spanned several decades, establishing him as a star in the television soap opera “Peyton Place” before his son Patrick was born in 1967. His international fame soared with the success of “Love Story” in the early 1970s, followed by other hits including “What’s Up, Doc?” and “Paper Moon.”
Apart from his successful acting career, O’Neal courageously battled multiple health issues over the years. He was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia in 2001 and later with stage two prostate cancer in 2012. Despite these challenges, O’Neal continued to remain a significant figure in the entertainment industry.
O’Neal is survived by his children, including actress Tatum O’Neal, with whom he shared the screen in “Paper Moon,” and sons Patrick, Griffin and Redmond, who is his son with the late Farrah Fawcett.

O’Neal’s final resting place is at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park near the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was buried Saturday, December 23 next to his former romantic partner, Farrah Fawcett, who died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 62. O’Neal also lies in close proximity to other celebrated figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, Dean Martin, and Natalie Wood.
