Angelina Jolie, a renowned actress and humanitarian, has announced her plans following her divorce from fellow actor Brad Pitt.
Jolie and Pitt, who share six children, were married in 2014 after nearly a decade of dating but abruptly split in 2016. Jolie filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The divorce proceedings followed allegations of physical abuse by Pitt towards Jolie and their eldest child, Maddox, on a private plane in September 2016. Although Pitt, 59, admitted to shouting at Maddox, he denied physical harm, and the FBI cleared him of these charges. This incident and disputes over shared assets and custody have resulted in a protracted and public separation.
In a December 5, 2023, interview with The Wall Street Journal, Jolie revealed her intention to leave Los Angeles after the divorce is finalized. She described Hollywood as “shallow” and expressed a desire for “authenticity.” Her experiences in visiting refugee camps and working with the United Nations, as well as adopting three of her six children from orphanages in Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, have shaped her perspective.
Jolie, 48, cited her closeness with refugees and people who have faced hardships as a primary reason for her decision. She feels more connected and relaxed with people who have confronted significant life challenges.
Additionally, the constraints of her divorce have limited her ability to travel and live freely, impacting her social life in Los Angeles. Jolie plans to move away after the divorce is finalized and has expressed a desire to possibly relocate to Cambodia.
On the work front, Jolie confirmed her return in a third installment of “Maleficent” and has several other projects in the pipeline, including “Maria,” “Every Note Played,” and “Maude v Maude.” She will also lend her voice to “Kung Fu Panda 4.”
