Prince Harry has accepted a board membership role with African Parks Network, a non-profit group based in South Africa that manages protected areas across the continent.
Harry has been affiliated with the organization since 2016 – initially kindling his connection during an elephant translocation operation in Malawi. His involvement intensified, and by December 2017, Harry had become the president of African Parks. He has held this role for six years and was actively involved in various conservation projects under the group’s agenda.
In August 2022, Harry welcomed a delegation of U.S. officials and conservationists, facilitating discussions about the conservation efforts of African Parks. Now, as his involvement evolves further into a board director role, Harry continues to showcase his commitment to African wildlife preservation.
In his years serving the African Parks Network, Harry has demonstrated a significant impact on the conservation sector, contributing not only through on-ground roles but also through bolstering the agenda of the organization — the protection and growth of Africa’s natural habitats and wildlife.
Harry’s past philanthropic efforts, including his work with Sentebale, evidence his commitment to aiding causes that uplift communities and the environment. Sentebale is a charitable organization co-founded in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, in Southern Africa. The charity’s mission is to support the mental health and well-being of children and young people affected by HIV, AIDS, and extreme poverty in Lesotho, Botswana, and Malawi. The word “Sentebale” means “Forget me not” in Sesotho, a language spoken in Lesotho.
African Parks has recognized the value Harry’s advocacy and work brings to the organization as well as the broader global conservation movement.
Through Harry, the cause of conserving biodiversity has gained a powerful ally. As he starts his journey as a board member at African Parks, his involvement will shine a light on the significance and urgency of safeguarding Earth’s biodiversity. His role invites global attention towards our shared responsibility of creating a sustainable future.
