In Bradenton, Florida, a 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with the murders of his mother and her boyfriend.
The double homicide took place at the Arbor Terrace RV Park.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at around 12:06 pm on Friday, November 10, 2023, after neighbors reported hearing screams from a mobile home.
Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the dead bodies of Patricia Matejcek, 62, and Sean Harrison Sr., 55, lying on the floor of the home.
The first officer at the scene witnessed the suspect, Thomas Matejcek fleeing the residence and, within minutes, the deputies apprehended him.
This was not Matejcek’s first encounter with the law. He had just been released from prison three weeks earlier and had a history of violent confrontations with his mother and Harrison. In October 2020, he was taken into custody for domestic battery by strangulation. The arrest report detailed an aggressive altercation where he allegedly grabbed his mother’s throat, pushed her down, attempted suffocation with a pillow, and expressed a wish for her demise.
Another incident in May 2023, at the same location, involved Matejcek forcefully entering the home, assaulting and choking Harrison, and pushing his mother, leading to a broken hip. He also seized their cell phones to prevent them from seeking help.
The ongoing investigation is uncovering more details, and charges are pending against Matejcek. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is leading the inquiry, with updates promised as new information emerges.
Patricia Matejcek is survived by another son and two younger sisters. Her family, in the wake of the incident, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help manage the unforeseen expenses following her death. A sister, Krista Kale wrote, “She has faced years of physical, mental, and emotional abuse at the hands of this monster with no help from the courts to stop this man”.
Matejcek’s arraignment is scheduled for January 5, 2024.
