A Bronx, New York City, man was killed on Monday, November 6, 2023, while cleaning a cement truck when he became entangled in the vehicle’s rotating shaft, officials said.
The victim, identified as Francisco Lumbreras, was performing maintenance work inside a cement mixing truck when the incident occurred. Police were called to the scene at a construction site in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx.
Emergency responders arrived to find Lumbreras trapped in the machinery. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident, which took place around 1:30 pm during routine cleaning operations, has sparked an investigation by local authorities. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to conduct an inquiry into the workplace practices and safety measures in place at the time of the accident.
Lumbreras was employed by CNB Contracting. A representative of the company declined to provide a statement about the incident.
The investigation will likely examine the maintenance procedures for the cement mixing truck and whether any safety standards were overlooked or violated. No charges have been filed, and authorities have not released any additional information on potential factors leading to Lumbreras’s death.
