In a discovery that was made on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in the North Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, homicide detectives unearthed the human remains of a person who mysteriously vanished in June of this year.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), which has been rigorously investigating this case, found the remains in a backyard located near Woodley Avenue and Woodley Place.
The excavation of the remains, a gruesome find that has left the local community in disbelief, took place on a sprawling one-acre property in close proximity to a pool and pool house. The intensive search, captured in footage, showed law enforcement officials meticulously combing through the site.
A resident, expressing their shock, remarked, “You can’t really believe it. It’s like the weirdest thing to happen.”
Authorities have linked these remains to a missing persons’ case from June and have identified the victim as 35-year-old Carlos De Leon from Guatemala.
Law enforcement arrested 48-year-old Russell Robinson, now a key suspect in the investigation. The victim’s remains were found in his backyard. Robinson, who was apprehended at a separate location, has been charged with suspicion of murder and is currently detained on a $2 million bail. The arrest was confirmed by LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton during a press briefing at the crime scene. The discovery was made following a tip that led to Russell Robinson’s residence.
Deputy Chief Hamilton’s statement underscored the LAPD’s unwavering commitment to resolving homicide cases. “Someone thought they could murder someone and hide the body,” he said, emphasizing, “The Los Angeles Police Department never gives up on homicide investigations. Ever.”
